It was the year of the great tied, unbeatens: Galion and Shelby. Three teams tied for third place with two wins including Ashland. It was the first time the Sportswriters picked a "consensus" all-league team. Paul Chorpening was Ashland's lone selection. He was a star on defense in the Mt. Vernon win, and he caught the winning TD pass in the Bucyrus game a 63-yarder from Eugene Burns. Marshall Mumaw led the team in scoring with 24
