While AHS grew to 410 students, only three lettermen returned for Coach Barnhart. Nine of the starters weighed between 138 and 146 pounds. Sky Wharton led the team in scoring for the second straight year, and he had the longest play a 95-yard interception return in the opening game. The tie at Marion was their best performance, but they lost the battle for the cellar with Mansfield (14-13) on Thanksgiving Day.
However the game was declared a forfeit by the NCO because of their ineligible QB, who scored the winning points. Art Rybolt started for the fourth straight year, and Clarence Cordell threw three TD passes and kicked 8 PATs.
