The line play of Don Cooper, the kicking of Howard Grindle,
and the rushing of Charles Newsome and Herb Ganyard gave AHS
their first NCO league championship. In one of the classic games
on Thanksgiving Day at YMCA Field with the downtown stores decorated,
a crowd of 5,000 fanatic students, band members, and alumni
rooted their heroes to a 19-0 win. The result was a 3-way championship
with Bucyrus and Mansfield.
Cooper, Grindle, Newsome, Campbell, and Ganyard were named to
the first all-league team.
