The Orangemen were the pre-season pick
to win the NCO, and they won their only undisputed title. Pete
Hathaway was the team's leading scorer with 50 points and second
in the NCO point race. Nine players earned all-league honors and
13 seniors graduated, but Bus Hockensmith made one of AHS's classic
runs in the 4th quarter against Mansfield, who had scored the
only TD of the NCO season against the A's. Hocky broke eight tackles
and juggernauted 70 yards to the one-yard line. After Pete Hathaway
scored on the wedge play, Bus dropkicked the PAT for a 7-6 win
and the first Red Lantern trophy win in football. Coach Rosie
Starn headed for a bright future at Kent State. |
