The running of Johnny Matthews and the
triple threat performance of Robert Rybolt gave the A's the best
start since 1909 six straight wins. Dean Morgan and Herb Smith
led probably AHS's finest interior line in NCO history. Miles
Strine's TD on a blocked punt won the Marion game. Although Bob
Rybolt won the NCO scoring title with 25 points, they could not
defeat NCO champs Mansfield even with Matthew's 88-yard kickoff
return. The Orange & Black finished 5th in the NCO, but they
had the best season record since the 1915 team. The first night
game in AHS history was played against Marion at College Field,
and the first Dads Game was played against Mt. Gilead. |
